Wet, Wind and Hills. That about sums it up. ## The week before Tanya and I were in London for the past couple weeks so it made training for this a bit tough, but managed to get into a gym down there only to find the spin bikes are locked up until a class was on, and most of the classes were for ladies only, unless I took up some form of cross dressing it wasn't likely that I could get on a bike. So I settled for cross trainer and some weights. Unfortunately we were coming back up on the....
This is my second year doing the pedal for scotland charity ride. Last year, I was in the Challenge ride, a 47 mile ride from Glasgow Green heading up to the north and across to Edinburgh, finishing at Murrayfield. This year I decided to up my game and go for the 110 mile sportive, and the way my legs gave up on me at the end of the 47 mile challenge ride last year I must have been crazy! At the beginning of the year I missed out on the Dunfermline sportive due to illness and signed up for the 100....

I've started doing shorter daily cycles, with longer cycles added in increasing in length steadily. Currently focusing on the Pedal for Scotland cycle at the beginning of September, as dissapointed as I am with this years cycling, I'll have done 2 100+ mile sportives, which is pretty good for my first 100+ year.....
Well, after nearly 5 weeks of illness and nearly 2 months of not much cycling, i'm finally back in the saddle, trying to get back on track for the latter part of the summer. I had a very bad throat infection that came from a tooth abscess at least thats the current idea. Worst doctor had seen! I started a light trainer session, and going to continue that to get cardio fitness back then will concentrate more on strength. But I'm still on antibiotics for another week and a half, so i'm still not out of the woods yet, so will....
I think the term Woohoo is appropriate here! Well, i've accomplished my first ever 100 miler, and in just over 10 hours by the official timing chip. I'll write an account of the day below, so if you don't want all the boring details, switch off now.. :) The morning had arrived. The few days leading up to Sunday, I had been ignoring the fact that I would be cycling nearly double that which I had cycled in a day before. My longest ride so far had been a 60 mile hilly ride and I was dead at the end of that,....
Another ride up Mount Cootha this morning, much easier than the last ride, only 3 stops on the way up and they were not the 'gasping - i'm going to be sick' stops that i had last time. Not sure what changed, but i did pump up the rear tyre a bit, so maybe? May have also been a bit cooler this morning too. Pretty tough ride, new bike, 22ºC, 1000ft climb and i've not been cycling for a couple of weeks. First time running with my cam though, links to videos at the end. Mt Cootha is a 1000ft viewpoint over the city or brisbane, getting there is pretty easy with the excellent set of cycleways and tracks that they have here, once at the bottom, it was just a slog to the top. I had been there in a car last year so kind of knew what to expect, but it was still tough. I forgot to turn on the camera on the....
Sitting on the balcony of my room in brisbane, i'm currently looking out over a soggy, rainy morning. Not much changed from cardross, well, except the temperature is about 20ºc higher! Initially I though this work trip would put a big damper on cycling, due to time in work, and well, the lack of a bike, but I've sorted one of these. I'm now the proud owner of a Specialized Roubaix Comp, second hand, but really well looked after and looks and feels brand new. Its little comfort though while its pouring down outside. But the rain won't last long and....

Longest cycle to date, 60 miles. Hills were fine, its when i got back down on to the flat bit that I started to feel it around 45 miles. Don't know how long it took me to get home from there, but thats where I lost most of my time I think. There were at least 2 big climbs, with rolling roads in between till about mile 40, after that a simulated hill climb with the kind assistance of a headwind the whole way round the kilcreggan peninsula and home from faslane. http://cntrl.us/CgEh....
Nice. First ride of the year and I already feel better than at any time last year... faster recovery, more strength.. its going to be a good year!! Evidently, the new tyres, spin classes and sufferfest vids are a good combination. If it wasn’t for a small break to fix my front wheel that was on the wrong way round by dales during the service, I would have broken my personal best up to garelochhead by 3-5 mins.....

As i started down the road, cycling the 20 miles up to work for the first time, the words ‘am i crazy, i’ll never make it’ were running through my head. When I was in school i lived on my bike. I cycled to school, back from school and after school i went out on my bike too. It was all short rides though, this was miles away, but as it went on, and I got further i began to think i could do this. My target time was under 2hrs, and once i’d hit that my target was 1:30hrs, my....
